Religious Education
The purpose of RE at Homefield
At Homefield through the high quality teaching of RE we aim to improve children’s religious literacy. Being religiously literate means that pupils will have the ability to hold balanced and well-informed conversations about religion and worldviews. Pupils will be able to make sense of religion and worldviews around them and begin to understand the complex world in which they live. RE is primarily about enabling pupils to become freethinking, who can make informed judgements about important matters of religion and belief which shape our diverse global landscape.
The multidisciplinary approach
At Homefield, we teach RE through the multidisciplinary approach. This provides a balanced diet ensuring that pupils are seeing religion and worldviews through different lenses. At Homefield the three lenses we learn through are:
Theology: think through believing.
Philosophy: Think through believing.
Human/Social Sciences: thinking through living.
RE is taught us the Understanding Christianity resource and the Norfolk Agree Syllabus. Both resources use the multidisciplinary approach. Over the course of the year children will answer four Big questions. As a Church of England school 50% of our curriculum (Big questions) is focused on Christianity.
Below is an overview of each year group's RE units (Big questions) taught in a year.
