Key Stage 1 (Yr 1 & 2)
Headteacher's Welcome
At Homefield C of E Primary, we pride ourselves on inspiring learning environments that engage children and capture their interests. Children in Years 1 & 2 learn within a continuous provision environment. If you enter our Yr1 or Yr2 classrooms you will find a room full of engaged children absorbed in play within the environment or working in small groups with adults.
It is important for our school community to fully understand the concept of continuous provision and how the principles will help support children's learning and development. The purpose of effective continuous provision is to offer children a constant environment that is safe for them to explore, whilst challenging their learning. Our environments allow children space and time to explore and become independent in making choices and selecting resources. Our approach is child centred and supports natural child development. At Homefield we encourage children to be inquisitive and curious.
Our teaching staff facilitate and exploit every learning opportunity. Small group teaching enables children to be engaged and supported. We meet the needs of individual children by working in carefully planned small groups.
We believe that our approach to learning enables children to be curious, and experience a real 'joy of learning'

Our Ethos
Learning in Years 1 & 2 is supported by continuous provision underpinned by our curriculum. We believe that our children learn best through play, when inspired and motivated by their own interests.
Skilful adults enable this to happen through a well planned, captivating environment that is carefully mapped across all areas of our Key Stage 1 curriculum.
The children benefit from whole class teaching, adult-directed and self-initiated learning within our stimulating learning environments. This allows for meaningful scaffolds and appropriate challenges that suit each individual learner.
